Alpine Road Germany
The Alpine Road, Germany
Located in the heart of Bavaria, Munich is one hell of a place and a great start to your Wicked roadtrip. Rock up to the depot and you’ll be greeted with a big fat weißwurst, well probably not. Definitely go buy one though, they taste bloody amazing. This roadtrip will take you from our depot in Munich, across to Lindau and back through the beautiful towns and villages of Oberstaufen, Oberammergau, Ettal, Garmisch and Bad Tolz.
Arrive in Munich and check out the century old buildings and array of museums on offer. If you're after something a bit more adventurous, one thing you CANNOT miss is the city surfing river. Head to the Englischer Garten and discover this funky Munich attraction.
The artificial stream that circles the garden uses a special pumping mechanism that creates a big wave at one particular spot, turning it into the Eisbach aka ''icy brook'. If you are into surfing yourself, you're going to love this.
Now for something completing different. Have you guys heard of real escape games? It’s one of the greatest brain teasers out there. Munich boasts an awesome exit game spot. The purpose of the game is to exit a room in 60 minutes by solving challenging puzzles and riddles along with your team. Get involved!
Drive your campervan to Lindau, about 2 hours or so from Munich - a truly beautiful place to visit. Take a stroll between the old gabled houses packed in a maze of narrow streets.
As Lindau is an island, it's no wonder that boating plays a big part of getting to and from Lindau. Ferries go to most larger towns around Lake Constance, a really nice way to sit back and enjoy the views. At Lindau, the ferries arrive at the central port - Lake Constance harbour, where the Lion and Lighthouse is situated.
Lindau retains a medieval and Baroque appearance. Among notable landmarks are the old town hall, the collegiate church of the old abbey, St. Stephen’s Church and the 19th-century Bavarian lion statue (found at the entrance to the small harbour).
The roads to Zugspitze are much more interesting than the famous ‘Romantic Road’, but trickier to follow as they twists through scores of small towns and villages such as Oberstaufen, Ettal, etc.
Cruise on through the winter-sport resort of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, after paying a visit to Zugspitze - Germany’s highest mountain peak. King Ludwig’s remarkable Neuschwanstein Castle and Linderhof Palace are also nearby, two attractions definitely not to be missed.
This is one of the classic European drives, a designated scenic route twisting along the edge of the Bavarian Alps. Highlights of the trip include the lush Alpine meadows, snowy mountain peaks and ancient forests, surrounded by dozens of fairy-tale castles and lakes.
As I mentioned above, you'll encounter two infamous castles on your travels through Zugspitze. King Ludwig’s Neuschwanstein Castle and Linderhof Palace are not to be missed on your Wicked roadtrip.
The Neuschwanstein Castle is one of the most visited castles in Germany and one of the most popular tourist destination in Europe. The castle is located in Bavaria, near the town of Fussen. It was built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria, also known as the “Fairytale King”.
Linderhof Palace and its surrounding park is one of the most artistic and stylistically complex ensembles of the 19th century. Influenced by French architecture, Linderhof was modelled on the small summer palaces that were built in France in the 18th century.
These are just some of the awesome attractions along the Alpine Road. It really is one beautiful drive and best done over a few days, take your time before cruising back to our Wicked depot in Munich.
